What is a delivery challan?
A delivery challan is the document that travels with goods when they move without a sale, so there is no tax invoice to send with them.
Rule 55 of the CGST Rules allows one for goods sent for job work, for liquid gas where the quantity isn’t known when it leaves, and for goods moved for reasons other than a supply, such as to an exhibition; CBIC has also allowed it for goods sent on approval. It is serially numbered, carries the consignor’s and consignee’s details, HSN, quantity and value, and is made in three copies: the original for the consignee, the duplicate for the transporter and the triplicate for you. An e-way bill is generally also needed when the consignment is worth more than ₹50,000.
